Back when we were originally planning the Less Than Secret Kickstarter, we were going to set the goal at $3,000. We decided to drop it to $1,500 because we wanted to improve the chances of getting funded, and $3,000 seemed like a riskier amount. Could we make that in thirty days? Well guess what. We just did, and we made it in five. From the bottom of all our hearts, thank you. Reaching this first stretch goal means that we're no longer going to be printing the bare minimum of books necessary to cover costs. We will be able to do a proper print run. We'll be able to create extra sales copies, and we'll be able to distribute them to our contributors. Any artist will tell you, free copies of books mean a lot.
Our stretch goals from here on are going to be pretty straightforward: for every additional $1,000 we raise, we'll be increasing our creative teams' page rates by $5/page, or $60/story. This means that the next stretch goal is $4,000. Before, I wouldn't have dared to get my hopes up that we'd hit that goal; now, we have a real shot. We still have plenty going on over the next 24 days of the campaign. Our twice-weekly interviews with the contributors over on Kelci's YouTube channel started today with Rainer Kannenstine, and the Ben Wright-Heuman interview will be this Saturday, 4/10, at 1 PM EST. That same day, the Early Bird Specials will expire, so we'll be pushing those right up until the last minute. We also still have Angela Boyle's Coloring Page Challenge, and we'll be announcing the first "Draw This In Your Style" Challenge soon. It's going to be a busy few weeks, to say the least. Once again, thank you all for supporting this project in its early days. You have no idea how much it means to us. Rock on, guys, and never stop drawing. The Less Than Secret Kickstarter has launched, and the Launch Party is underway!
This has been a long time coming, and we are excited to finally have the ball rolling. I can't wait to hear what you all think. Rock on, guys, and never stop drawing. Just off the edge of reality, where we can’t be sure what is real and what isn’t, lie cryptids! Creatures of science and myth, they range from the terrifying, like the Jersey Devil; to the mysterious, like the Mothman; to the downright bizarre, like the Fresno Nightcrawler.
Less Than Secret is a black-and-white comics anthology celebrating cryptids in all their forms! We have brought together some of the best up-and-coming artists to share their takes on these mysterious beings with seven stories that feature horror, comedy, and everything in-between! Hi guys, For those of you who are unaware, I've been working on a secret project for the last year. I've worked with anthologies before as a contributor, and even as a book designer; this time, however, my fantastic creative partner Rainer Kannenstine and I have been running an anthology as co-organizers. We're in the final legs of it, which is why I'm excited to announce that the Kickstarter to fund the first print run launches this Saturday, April 3rd, at noon EDT! More information will be posted throughout the week, but if you would like to follow the Kickstarter page and be notified when it goes live, you can do so here. You can also follow the hashtag #LessThanSecret on the social media platform of your choice to see our creators' updates over the next month. We've been working on this project in relative secrecy since last summer, and it is incredible to finally be able to share it. This has been one of the most incredible creative experiences I've ever had, and I can't wait to see what you think of it. Rock on, guys, and never stop drawing. Greetings and salutations! GUYS. We are getting SO CLOSE! Without further ado, let’s begin! The Letters of the Devil With two-thirds of the campaign passed, we’ve just reached the 68% mark! According to Kickstarter’s analytics, campaigns that reach 60% have a 98% chance of becoming fully funded, so I was very excited when that hurdle was cleared yesterday morning!
With the campaign in its final days, I will be upping my sales game. You may even be hearing from me directly! To check out the Kickstarter campaign for yourself, please visit www.LOTD-Comic.com. I also made a recent post about a way you can help promote the project! Livestreams Livestream replays are posting daily to the BWHComics YouTube channel right now! If you’re interested in seeing some of the process, please check them out! That said, I may not be able to do a livestream this weekend. I have been invited by my friend Trickssi to go to Anime Crossroads (as an attendee, not as a tabler), so I will be out of town. We have, however, discussed the possibility of doing a livestream from the hotel, but that will be dependent on the internet quality and our busy schedules. Keep an eye out! Wrap-Up Well, that’s it! I’ve got to finish packing for that con! If you want to support my work further, please visit my online store. I also have Patreon and Ko-Fi accounts if those are more your speed. Rock on, guys, and never stop drawing. Greetings and salutations! We’ve crested the hill! Without further ado, let’s begin! The Letters of the Devil Passing the halfway point on Kickstarter is an important moment. Statistically, a campaign that clears this hurdle has a substantially higher likelihood of making its goal. There’s still a ways to go before we’re in the clear, however, so I have no intention of resting just yet! To check out the Kickstarter campaign for yourself, please visit www.LOTD-Comic.com. I also made a recent post about a way you can help promote the project! Livestreams I will be streaming today at 2 PM EST on my YouTube channel! Stop by to watch me make a dummy of the booksleeve for the Special Edition copies of The Legacy of L!
I still plan to stream every Saturday at 2 PM EST on my YouTube channel. I will post an announcement on Patreon and on my social media accounts if that will be changing. Wrap-Up Well, that’s it! I’ve got a stream to get ready for. If you want to support my work further, please visit my online store. I also have Patreon and Ko-Fi accounts if those are more your speed. Rock on, guys, and never stop drawing. Greetings and salutations! The ball’s still rolling! Without further ado, let’s begin! Recently Released CosPain #134: Halitosis (Hi-Res Patron Version) CosPain #135: Token Extrovert Upcoming Events I actually have a con to announce! Joy! I will be tabling alongside Jaromir Stoll at this year’s Indie Comics Fair at the Ace of Cups! If you live in the Columbus area, this is a particularly good con for meeting and interacting with local cartoonists. And, if you’re a drinker, it’s hosted in a bar, so win-win! Hope to see you on March 7th! If you know of any events that are accepting artists, let me know! The Letters of the Devil The momentum has slowed a bit on the Kickstarter, but we’re still on track! We are over a third of the way to the goal with 20 days still left! More of the limited-quantity original illustrations have been claimed, so if that particular reward caught your interest, I would act sooner rather than later!
There’s a quote by Neil Gaiman that I’m fond of, that will, in fact, be included in the introduction to the book: I remember when it was all done in the first draft telling Gene Wolfe, who is the wisest writer I know and has written more excellent novels than any man I’ve met, that I thought I had now learned how to write a novel. Gene looked at me, and smiled kindly. “You never learn how to write a novel,” he told me. “You only learn to write the novel you’re on.” Words of wisdom that definitely applied to The Legacy of L, and which is also, it would seem, applicable ot Kickstarters. Turns out I had it easy on the first Kickstarter, with a massive initial boost that cleared the funding goal in just 7 days. Any funds beyond that were “extra”, and I was able to take it easier, knowing that the core funds were secured. This one has been slower and steadier, and I’ve had to keep the hustle going for a lot longer. It’s definitely worth it, and I have no intention of stopping until we’ve hit that $2,000 goal, but it’s been a learning experience. If you want to keep a closer eye on what’s going on with the campaign, the best way is to follow my social media accounts, which will be shamelessly plugging this project for the next month! I have accounts on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook that will be posting regular updates. I also made a recent post about a way you can help promote the project! Livestreams As promised, I hosted a livestream this past Saturday on my Twitch channel, due to some technical difficulties preventing me from streaming on YouTube. I will be posting edited replays on my YouTube channel when I get a chance to work on them, but until then, the raw streams are available here. I still plan to stream every Saturday at 2 PM EST on my YouTube channel, but the time may shift this week, as this Saturday is my mom’s birthday (hi Mom!) and I need to make sure I have time to call her. I will post an announcement on Patreon and on my social media accounts if that will be changing. Wrap-Up All right, back into the grind. This comic won’t sell itself! If you want to support my work further, please visit my online store. I also have Patreon and Ko-Fi accounts if those are more your speed. Rock on, guys, and never stop drawing. Greetings and salutations! We’re off to a good start! A particular shout-out to my friends at the Play Disc Podcast for all the promotional support they’ve given! Without further ado, let’s begin! Recently Released CosPain #134: Halitosis (Hi-Res Patron Version) CosPain #135: Token Extrovert Upcoming Events We’re currently in the off-season for cons, but I have several irons in the fire and hope to be notifying you all of further developments soon. If you know of any events that are accepting artists, let me know! The Letters of the Devil II The Kickstarter is off to a fantastic start! We are over a quarter of the way to the goal with 25 days still left! Some of the higher-ticket items, like Special Editions and the limited-quantity original illustrations, are already being claimed, so I wouldn’t sleep on this if I were you!
I’m legitimately trying to avoid turning my Patreon and my mailing list into a 24/7 shill-a-thon, but Kickstarters mean an increase in activity, so I will be posting more often than I normally do. My plan to stem the flow is to do newsletters once every 5 days, and to otherwise try to restrict my posts about the Kickstarter (barring any big, sudden developments). If, for some reason, you DO want to keep a closer eye on what’s going on with the campaign, the best way is to follow my social media accounts, which will be shamelessly plugging this project for the next month! I have accounts on Twitter, Instagram, and Facebook that will be posting regular updates. I also made a recent post about a way you can help promote the project! Livestreams I recently did a livestream with Kelci Crawford and had an absolute BLAST doing it. While I’ve done quite a few art livestreams in the past, I’ve never just sat down and had a conversation with someone on a stream before, and I very much liked it. It’s made me realize that I need to experiment with streaming more than I have been. I am tentatively planning on doing at least one livestream a week during the month of February. Some may be solo, like my past CosPain Live Draws; some may have guests, perhaps other cartoonists or friends in the cosplay community; and some may be much more outside-of-the-box. I’m going to tentatively plan to stream every Saturday at 2 PM EST, but I will post an announcement on Patreon and on my social media accounts if that will be changing. I will also be doing much of my streaming on my YouTube channel instead of my Twitch channel to see which platform better suits my needs. Wrap-Up All right, time to put my salesman hat back on and get out there! If you want to support my work further, please visit my online store. I also have Patreon and Ko-Fi accounts if those are more your speed. Rock on, guys, and never stop drawing. The Kickstarter for The Letters of the Devil II: The Legacy of L is officially live! The campaign will be running until March 1st at 10 PM, but don't delay, as some of the higher reward tiers are limited! GET YOU SOME COMIX!
Rock on, guys, and never stop drawing. Hi everyone!
The Kickstarter Pre-Launch Page is up! What does this mean? It means you can now sign up to be notified when the Kickstarter goes live in about a week! THIS IS REALLY FINALLY HAPPENING! Thank you to everyone who has been patient with me during this process. I wanted to start the Kickstarter rolling months ago, but it's better to have a late good product than an early bad product. I won't let you down with this one. Rock on, guys, and never stop drawing. |
