I do try to leave the hotel rooms at least reasonably passable. Even so, I make a point of tipping very well, especially since I know they'll have to deal with other rooms that are worse and that won't leave tips. Seriously guys, if you've packed a room full of bodies for a weekend and expect someone to clean up after you, get everyone in the room to chip in a little cash. It's just good manners.
A sad truth of con life is that hotel rooms have a tendency to get absolutely trashed when Hurricane Cosplay rolls through. Since serious cosplay often requires long periods of changing and makeup application, and since the rooms are often shared by many people with varying schedules, it's extremely common for housekeeping services to be unable to enter the rooms for the duration of the con. Trash doesn't get emptied, sheets don't get replaced, and more and more towels get ordered and pile up near the ceiling as they get soiled.
