One of the interesting traits I've noticed in a number of my cosplayer friends is that they welcome spoilers. Perhaps it's because they want to get the jump on making costumes and don't mind learning the surprises and secrets ahead of time to make sure it's a character they really want to devote their time and energy to. It might be that the cosplayers in my life simply don't like surprises. Or maybe they're just crazy! I dunno. But they always have trouble talking about stuff around me because they know I don't wanna get spoiled.
