For my very first con, I studied the schedule and highlighted dozens of panels that I wanted to attend. I had a pretty packed itinerary. By my second con, I pretty much ignored the schedule. So much happens outside of the panels, especially for cosplayers, that you can go to a con without participating in any of the scheduled events and still get your money's worth.
