The event that inspired this particular strip, however, was not quite the same situation. It was the dual-booking of the Greater Columbus Convention Center with both Matsuricon 2018 and a Republican fundraising dinner, which was attended at the last minute by President Trump. While I typically try to avoid bringing up politics too much in my work, I think it would be fair to say that the atmosphere was rather tense all around. Kudos to the Matsuricon staff for their handling of an extraordinary and difficult situation.
Fans come from all walks of life. I've definitely seen situations where a con center had more than one event scheduled for the same weekend, and while there's often a bit of awkwardness, it can sometimes lead to entertaining encounters. You never know when someone who has to attend a work-related con will look at cosplayers and wish they were on the other side having fun.

My brother went to a convention at the Gaylord (believe it was Katsucon?) where not only did they have a major anime convention going on, but also a Marine Corps unit that was celebrating its anniversary and a Southern Baptist conference all on the same weekend. The Marines were pretty cool with it; the Baptists got a little annoyed when they re-enacted the Crucifixion with Wolfwood's cross and a Jesus cosplayer...

One year, they double booked Dragon*Con's first two days with the Southern Baptist Convention's last two days.

I'm glad to hear that turned out well! It does sound like a time bomb waiting to go off.

Haha at last year's Oz Comic Con in Sydney, we had the main hall and everything but in one of the other smaller halls there was a psycologist's convention going on... they probably had a lot of great case studies...

I remember meeting someone who learned about Ohayocon because they were part of the one cheerleading competition that's always there and basically ditched the competition to go to the con
