I have heard a number of people say they used 3-D printing to make their prop components these days. Seems pretty handy, but I figure I'll save that for the really tough-to-make pieces.
When I have more time for cosplay, I want to learn the art of prop-making. That's my favorite aspect. To this day, my best prop was my very first prop: the visor I made for my Godot cosplay. I built it from an aluminum gutter and a translucent red folder.
