This happened during Ohayocon 2020. Granted, I wasn't in costume, but my friends were, and they were also being addressed by this very confused person.
The character I used for this joke has appeared in a couple other strips, most notably this one. In a way, she represents the type of person many people in the con-going community fear: the "normal" person who is highly judgmental of anything that deviates from that sense of normalcy. It is the threat of people like her that cause many of us to hide our activities under pseudonyms, to lie to our coworkers about what we did over the weekend, to make us fear that "our fun is wrong".
That is, in large part, why I made her so ridiculous. I want her type of thinking to become a joke. I want someone who is self-conscious about their own interest and involvement in the cosplay life to be able to laugh at the embodiment of their anxieties. In this community, she's the weirdo.
I have introduced some other bit characters who are outside of the community, most of whom I consider pretty positive representations. I do have plans for some of them in the future. I wouldn't be surprised if this character pops up from time to time, though, if only to remind everyone that silly people do exist.
