GARY YOU SO CLUMSY!

I struggled a LOT with this moment. I couldn't decide how MP would be able to get out of this awkward meeting. I got a lot of great suggestions from family and friends, but in the end, this was the option that worked best for the story.

Other possibilities were:

Hilde just didn't recognize MP.
Wine was spilled on an expensive rug.
A champagne cork hit Hilde in the head.
Mr. O'Malley accidentally mentioned having a mistress.

Your mileage may vary, but I'm happy with my choice.

Rock on, guys, and never stop drawing.

Hilde not recognizing MP would be the most realistic. A brief encounter, in a different context, how long ago? And more importantly, all that stress and worry leading to a completely inconsequential encounter? Painfully familiar.

Not saying this is bad! Shows Gary to be a good guy, trying to help out MP. Just, it's not rare to stress more about things than the things deserve.
