The different ways that costumes can restrict movement can sometimes be comical. And, in the case of inoperative escalators, potentially dangerous.

When they commissioned the armor for me to wear at trade shows, it had a long-ish black cape that was designed to pull loose fairly easy if it got caught in a door or joker gave it a firm tug. Better than going over backwards in over 100 lbs of metal! I expect that a lot of people have figured out that they need quick releases and work-arounds in costumes. The rest have been gradually removed from the gene pool.
