It took me a LONG time to learn how to draw and talk simultaneously. I can't emphasize enough how helpful it is having people in the chat talking to you while you work.
Believe it or not, this is the first time we've actually given this tabler's name! There's a very good reason for this, you see ... I never came up with a name for her. Her design is based on my friend Angela Boyle, who was one of my first tabling partners and a really great cartoonist. While the personalities diverge, I've always kind of thought of the character as "Angela". Since I use the character to mirror my own struggles and insecurities as an artist and tabler, however, it felt like putting words in my friend's mouth to give her that name.
Recently, however, I came up with the perfect name. When we were students together at the Center for Cartoon Studies, Angela used to talk about doing a comic about Maria Sibylla Merian, the famous naturalist. As a nod to that (and with Angela's approval), I've dubbed the character, "Sibyl".
Now I just have to come up with a name for her partner. Crap.
